MTP, iPods, and Chickens, all in One Short Post.

A brief update on my doings.

This week, for some reason or another, I did not find the time to sit and write a normal full-length post. As a result, there is only this brief update about what I’ve done this week, including a OnePlus 12, an iPod touch, and chickens.

The OnePlus 12 File Transfer Hassle.

I have a OnePlus 12. I bought it with 512GB of storage so as to reduce the amount of times that I have to connect the thing to my laptop to transfer files off of it. It has paid off, but not nearly as well as I would have thought. It turns out that in the span of time from when I got it to today, I have taken well over 30,000 pictures on the device. I had around 180GB of pictures on it. That is a LOT. Add in the rest of the stuff I had on the phone and you now have all save 7GB of the storage being used. I had to take the photos off.

Android, however, has one massive fault with such things: it uses MTP. MTP is HORRIBLE. For any kind of large file transfer, it is pure torture. Slow, buggy, and oftentimes crashing, I find it impossible to use. Android has been around for well over a decade. Google could have figured out something better. And yet they haven’t.

I ended up having to use ADB to remove the stuff from the device. First, I moved all of the pictures I wanted to remove into a folder on the device. Then, I plugged it into my laptop with USB debugging enabled, and ran the “adb pull SOURCE DESTINATION” command. That got them off in about 20 minutes as opposed to the decade or so it would to use MTP. From there, I deleted them manually off of the device after verifying all of the photos made it. Finally, I sat back and enjoyed the freedom of having half my phone’s storage back.

The iPod.

I have always liked iPod touch devices. They are unique in that they are the same form factor as an iPhone, and yet are not in fact iPhones. I have three of them, a first-generation, a fourth-generation, and a seventh-generation, and therefore, the beginning, middle, and end of the iPod touch series. For a long while, the seventh-generation was missing. It was found on the recent side, and it turns out it still works just as good as it did the day it was new. I have jailbroken it, and installed Reynard Browser along with TrollStore on it. Thanks to its small and light size I have oftentimes found it more convenient to use than my massive brick of a phone. It has also convinced me of getting an iPhone instead of an Android. So long as the age-verification nonsense does not cause issue, I most likely will grab one of those. From what I can tell, iPhones tend to last longer due to their much more powerful processors. This iPod, despite having a ten-year-old downclocked A10, still manages to do most of what I need in a device. It’s not hard to see why I can be easily convinced to the Apple side. At some point I shall most likely write a full post about this device, so I shall wait until then to continue this topic.

Chickens.

The chickens, despite the 102F/38C heat here, are doing quite alright. Agathae, on the other hand, seems to be threatening broodiness once more. She did the broody scream when I opened the door leading to her nesting box. Josephine is molting as well. Otherwise, not much has happened.

Conclusion.

I hope to write a better post than this next week. I oftentimes find myself lacking the creativity needed to make these posts. Sometimes I am in the process of dumping that energy into something else that needs it more than the blog. I don’t really enjoy shipping something subpar, so I try to at least put a bit of real, non-GMO, organic effort into these posts. I hope you enjoy reading these posts as much as I do making them.
